Re: Arnie out for around a month
On those rare occasions when he's been in the side long enough to not be rusty, Carroll has actually shown some skill, enough to be more than a target man for the percentage game*.

But it's true that previous managers haven't stopped the team falling to the temptation to play like that when he's on the pitch.

*In fact, his lack of pace means he's not very good at playing that role

Agreed. However, part of the problem has BEEN that the others HAVE been taking their opportunities, whilst Arnie has been struggling for fitness AND misfiring AND getting that old 'Stoke' negative attitude about him...

Negative displays on the pitch from players feed the opposition... surprised somebody hasn't hauled him aside and made that clear. It has to stop, no matter how difficult he is finding things, and whatever the reason.

And even if he wants out, he should still be doing his job until closing time. My hope is that we are already looking hard at alternatives - just in case.

Agreed. The evidence is there to see that Perez can do it at the top level. Look at last season in Spain. He was outstanding.

He needs a good run in the team and I am sure between him, Pea and Carroll we surely have enough to get us through to Jan with a good points total.

Re: Arnie out for around a month
Sir Alf I agree about Perez

I don't want to see Andy Carroll starting a game for West Ham again

For me he's is massive step backwards he might bang in one or two goals ,but he can't play touch and go football. For me he epidermises everything about the long ball, defensive football we were playing for the last 2 seasons

Re: Arnie out for around a month
Perez is good technically and even put a couple of decent passes in but he needs a few games before we can really determine how useful and effective he can be. He has been on the bench at Arsenal for gawd knows how long and while he seems to have a bit of pace and can finish quite well, an Arsenal fan I know said Arsend did not pick him as he did very little for the team when not in possession of the ball. No tracking back or pressing. Same might be said of Hernandez.

But Perezs passing was definitely better than Little Pea who kept giving it away. I would start Perez with Antonio up front as Antonio can do the physical stuff. Hernandez or Carroll on for either one of them second half. Like others I dont like the idea of Perez and Hernandez as a pair but Pellegrini will hopefully know. He seems to be learning all the time aside from not realising Arfur does not do "defending" that well on a consistent basis.

A harder game Saturday. Palace had a run of tough games against top 6 sides over the last 10 games but despite only 1 win, they were never beaten too easily ( ironically the Brighton game may have been the exception). I watched them a couple of times on the box at United and against the likes of Spurs , Arsenal ( draw) , Bournemouth only losy by a single goal. Their issue is goal scoring and over reliance on Zaha.

With a depleted squad, as Pellegrini says, we need all players coming in to really be on their game too.

Hopefully the "General" is back. We will need him ( Sir Alf gives kiss of death to Balbuena) :-)

Unlike your literacy.

At least we don't have to suffer Jordan Hugill clod-hopping around the pitch as his replacement.

Re: Arnie out for around a month
Hopefully we can deal with a semi-reasonable set of fixtures without him and he get a few minutes in the Cup and then be fresh and raring to go for Arsenal.

About a month is always a month with us, right?

Re: Arnie out for around a month
Impossible to replicate his brilliance with any other player but his recent form has been average to good obviously because of injury so that can be replicated somewhat, but not his wonderful passionate character.

Falace, I’m pretty sure there was no bandaging. What you are referring to is his odd tattoo on his thigh.

Re: Arnie out for around a month
Not a bad thing to be honest, yeah we will miss him, but this gives him the opportunity to get the niggles he has been suffering with cured.

A good months rest, will hopefully see him come back to what he was before his continued knee problems, that explosive power and pace will return.

Every game recently, he has gone down on the pitch, unable to complete 90 minutes.

And now we have 2 strikers in Hernandez and Perez, who have both scored a brace in the last week, their confidence will be sky high after that.
Also, throw into the mix, Andy Carroll, back from injury, but for how long he will last is anyones guess...

And then Zande Silva, back from an injury, 7 goals in 6 games, and another option for Pellers.

Not all doom and gloom.

Re: Arnie out for around a month
Maybe he shouldn't have been risked last game.

Clearly that leg has been bothering him, you could see the huge amount of tape/bandages he had wrapped around his hamstring/quad when he pulled his shorts up after the injury.

Shame it is literally the worst time to get an injury with so many games in quick succession that he'll miss, and against all the teams around us.

Will Perez keep his place after his 2 goals or will he look to someone more physical, id be tempted to put Antonio up there alongside Hernandez if Zabaleta is fit to play.

Russ of the BML 5:10 Thu Dec 6
Re: Arnie out for around a month
Shame as we are entering a run of fixtures on a roll and could've seen him smash the next 5 or 6 teams. But that's football.... And I suppose him getting injured comes at a time when Pe and Perez have had game time and have their tails up plus AC coming back. I am sure between those 3 we have enough to get he wins needed.

Re: Arnie out for around a month
He should not have been playing, looks to me that he has been carrying an injury for weeks.

Good opportunity for the other strikers, evidence suggests I think Chicharito, Perez and Carroll will take the opportunity. Arnautovic may even have to fight to get his place back.
